Shadowing an Artist: Nuit Blanche

On the day of October. 4.2014, my plan of an insightful night of art was to begin, despite it being cold enough to see my breath. A local woman, by the name of Annabelle Walker was the subject of my journalistic stalk through the crowds of rowdy critics and amateur art goers alike. Following her over the course of a 5 hour period, i managed to capture a glimpse of what the world of being an independent artist is like.

A Couple of premature pieces of print work, that would later relate into a piece running for exposure at Nuit Blanche.

A hot spot in downtown Toronto as the pair of us step off the subway. People lost, trying to find all the art.Cars have to stop to allow crowds to pass the compact streets.

An artist always loves to get inspired by new types of expression. As an amateur myself at art, i needed help understanding, Annabelle’s translation was easy simple-Stress.

A depth of field glance at a panel of oil work done with materials found at a construction site. This specific artist is one that has inspired Annabelle, because of their shared interests in oil work.

A very high exposure level allows for the lighting of this object to shine, while the subject, Annabelle sneaks in the focus for the shot.

A low exposure level captures only the single glance of natural lighting. The “white noise” screen turns a body of shadows into a crowd of human silhouettes.

Capturing only the moon and a single bulb. Annabelle says one word. Choices.

Our final destination. It’s time to see Annabelle’s final piece.

A full portrait done with oil on canvas sits on a blank wall hidden within the darkest part of the night. Unfortunately Annabelle’s other oil works were not chosen for display.
